Program Overview

Please note that the application period for the Summer 2023 Netherlands Program has ended.

  • Study in the picturesque town of Leiden (a small, historic, and culturally rich university town near Amsterdam).
  • Gain firsthand experience of Dutch culture via an in-depth exploration of education in The Netherlands.
  • Visit local schools in order to compare cultural differences in educational access and opportunity (including for students who learn differently).

  • Live in Webster University suites overlooking the harbor and windmills
  • Daily travel may include walking, trains, trams, buses, taxis

Travel Information

This program will have a group round-trip flight from Logan airport in Boston to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, then students will travel by train between Amsterdam and the program housing in Leiden.

  • At least one program leader will accompany the group on each flight
  • Landmark will offer optional shuttle service between campus and the airport

    Consider the following to determine if this course is the right fit for you.

    空闲时间/独立: Variable
    During free time, program leaders will offer optional activities. However, students who want to explore independently will have plenty of opportunities to do so.

    Physical Demands: Moderate
    Biking competency is important for some outings, but alternative transportation is possible.

    Transitions: Low
    The program stays in the same housing for the full three weeks. The schedule includes daily travel and a couple of day excursions, guided by program directors.

    There is no real language barrier, as most Dutch people speak fluent English.

  • The prerequisites for this course are EDU1001/1011 and WRT1012, and good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or above) OR permission of the department chair.

    Hannah Markos is an 教育学助理教授 at Landmark College and a novelist.

    Hannah holds an M.Ed from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and an MFA from Warren Wilson College.

     

     

    Program Director: Liza Burns, 传播学副教授

    副教授丽莎·伯恩斯只得了B.S. in special education from Keene State College and an M.Ed. in language and literacy from Harvard University 教育学院. She is a founding member of the Language Intensive Curriculum at Landmark College.

    Liza's passion for teaching is matched by her love for travel. She lived and taught in the Netherlands and Israel, and has led study abroad programs in the Netherlands, Costa Rica, Australia, and the UK.
